Grandmother's Fashion Lessons

I had the privilege of growing up with three generations of strong women. My great grandmother and grandmother took great pride in their appearance. I never saw them wear a pair of pants or a T-shirt. I remember waking up to the smell of bacon and eggs in the kitchen. My grandmother would be making homemade tortillas in a beautiful cotton dress, her hair perfectly curled and pinned in place. I didn't understand why she would get so dressed up to complete her household chores.
She would often explain to me that my family should always be proud of me. She was very traditional and believed that my husband should never come home from work and catch me in a pair of sweats with my hair pulled up in a ponytail. I laughed at the whole idea. I was a modern day working woman and saw no need to impress my husband or any man with my looks.
It was a valuable lesson and one I understand more clearly now. My grandmothers' were trying to teach me to have balance in my life. They were the pillars in our family. They raised the children, took care of the household. They also went out and looked for work during tough times and always managed to look amazing doing it.
My grandmothers are no longer with us. My mother and I are now stepping into the role of teaching my daughters how to become strong young women. We are passing on to them family values and teaching them to take care of their appearance and personal hygiene.
I don't wear dresses often but when I do, I can't help but glance in the mirror and know my grandmother would approve.
Knee Length Summer Dresses
Are you ready for summer time! It's time to tuck away your winter coats and breakout out some beautiful floral patterns and bright colors. What do I love about summer dresses? I love that they are cool and comfortable!
Some think that that summer time is a time to strip down to short shorts and skimpy blouses but you don't have to do that. You can keep cool in the summer and still look classy and elegant.
